日本では「〜% 増える」「〜% 減る」「増加率」と言い、増減をまとめた名前はない。英語は増えるとき percent increase、減るとき percent decrease と分けて言う。

- 書き言葉・答案 増減をまとめた言い方。教科書（OpenStax）では percent increase ／ percent decrease よりずっと少ない。
定義
もとの量に対して、増えた量（減った量）が何パーセントにあたるかを表したもの。増えた量 ÷ もとの量 × 100 で求める。
The amount of increase (or decrease) written as a percent of the original amount. The percent increase is the amount of increase divided by the original amount, times 100.
例文
話し言葉 It went from 20 to 23, so that's 3 out of the original 20, which is a 15 percent increase. 20 から 23 になったから、もとの 20 に対して 3 増えた。15 % の増加だね。
書き言葉・答案 The price of a ticket rose from $12 to $15. Find the percent increase. チケットの値段が 12 ドルから 15 ドルに上がった。何パーセント増えたかを求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 割る数はもとの量で、新しい量ではない。12 ドルから 15 ドルは 3 ÷ 12 で 25 % の増加で、3 ÷ 15 = 20 % ではない。
- 減るときは percent decrease と言う。OpenStax Prealgebra は percent increase と percent decrease をそれぞれ定義する（増えた量・減った量が、もとの量の何パーセントか）。
- 増減をまとめて percent change とも言う（OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry）。
