Pythagorean theorem
Pythagoras' theorem
a squared plus b squared equals c squared
For a right triangle, squaring the two shorter sides (the legs) and adding gives the square of the longest side (the hypotenuse): a² + b² = c².
It's a right triangle, so we can use the Pythagorean theorem: 6 squared plus 8 squared equals c squared, so c is 10.
A right triangle has legs of length 5 and 12. Use the Pythagorean theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse.
- OpenStax Elementary Algebra・Intermediate Algebra は a と b を legs、c を hypotenuse と呼んで公式を書く。
