1 つの角が直角である三角形。直角の向かいの辺を斜辺という。
A triangle with one right angle. Its longest side, across from the right angle, is the hypotenuse; the other two sides are the legs.

言い間違えやすいところ
- 直角をはさむ 2 辺は legs、直角の向かいの辺は hypotenuse（エントリ hypotenuse）と呼ぶ。日本語の「斜辺以外の辺」に当たる語が leg。
- right は「右」ではなく直角の意味（エントリ right-angle）。英国では right-angled triangle と言う。
- 中学校学習指導要領解説（第 2 学年）は、直角三角形だけに使える合同条件（斜辺と一つの鋭角、斜辺と他の 1 辺）を別に扱う（エントリ congruence-criteria-for-right-triangles）。
