2 直線に 1 本の直線が交わってできる角のうち、2 直線の外側にあり、交わる直線に対して同じ側にある 2 つの角。2 直線が平行なら和は 180° になる。
A pair of angles formed when a transversal crosses two lines, lying outside the two lines and on the same side of the transversal. If the two lines are parallel, the angles are supplementary.

言い間違えやすいところ
- 錯角や同位角と違い、平行線の同側外角は等しくならず、補角（和が 180°）になる。
- 内側の組は same-side interior angles（consecutive interior angles）と呼び、平行線なら同じく和が 180°。same-side と consecutive のどちらを使うかは教科書による。
- same-side exterior angles・consecutive exterior angles は、用例コーパスにも参照（CED・OpenStax・IM・CK-12・Nicholson・Levin）にも出てこない。
