和が 180° になる 2 つの角の、一方から見た他方の角。θ の補角は 180° − θ。
Two angles are supplementary when their measures add up to 180°; the supplement of an angle θ is 180° − θ.
例文
話し言葉 These two are supplementary angles, so x is just 180 minus 65, which is 115. この 2 つは補角どうしだから、x は 180 − 65 で 115 だ。
話し言葉 Angles on a straight line are supplementary, so they add up to 180 degrees. 一直線上に並んだ 2 つの角は互いに補角だから、足すと 180° になる。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 日本語版 Wikipedia「角度」は補角を 1 つの角（合わせて平角になる角）として定義する。OpenStax Prealgebra は 2 角の関係を形容詞で the angles are supplementary と書き、1 つの角には the supplement of … を使う（「40° の補角」は the supplement of 40°）。
- 「補」の字につられて complementary（余角）と取り違えやすい。supplementary は 180°、complementary は 90°。
