円周の一部分。円周上の 2 点 A、B の間の部分を弧 AB といい、⌒AB と書く。
A part of a circle between two points on the circle. The arc between A and B is called arc AB and is written with a small curved mark over AB.
例文
話し言葉 The arc is the curved part, and the chord is the straight segment connecting its endpoints. 弧は曲がった部分で、弦はその両端を結ぶまっすぐな線分だよ。
書き言葉・答案 Points A and B are on circle O, the radius is 6 cm, and ∠AOB = 60°. Find the length of arc AB. 点 A、B は円 O の周上にあり、半径は 6 cm、∠AOB = 60° である。弧 AB の長さを求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 記号 ⌒AB は arc AB と読む。2 点の間の弧は 2 つあり、大きいほうを major arc（エントリ major-arc）、小さいほうを minor arc（エントリ minor-arc）と区別する。
- 弧 arc は曲線で、弦 chord（エントリ chord）は弧の両端を結ぶ線分。
- 弧の長さは arc length（エントリ arc-length）。弧の度数（エントリ arc-measure）は度で表す別の量。
