定義
tan x を −π/2 < x < π/2 に制限した関数の逆関数。arctan x または tan⁻¹ x と書く。

例文
話し言葉 The antiderivative of one over one plus x squared is arctangent of x. 1/(1 + x²) の原始関数は arctan x。
書き言葉・答案 Evaluate tan⁻¹(−1) and sketch the graph of y = tan⁻¹ x. tan⁻¹(−1) の値を求め、y = tan⁻¹ x のグラフをかけ。
話し言葉 Inverse tangent of 1 is pi over 4, because the tangent of pi over 4 is 1. アークタンジェント 1 は π/4。tan(π/4) = 1 だから。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 学習指導要領解説には逆三角関数が出てこず、数学III の置換積分法で主に扱う置き換えは ax + b = t と x = a sin θ（〔内容の取扱い〕）。逆三角関数を使わずに求めるなら、∫₀¹ dx/(1 + x²) のような定積分は x = tan θ と置換して値を出す。OpenStax Calculus は答えを tan⁻¹ x + C の形で書くことが多く、arctan x とも書く。話し言葉の arctangent は半分以上が Khan Academy。
