隣り合う項の差が一定の数列。その一定の差を公差という。

例文
話し言葉 It's arithmetic, because you keep adding 4. 4 ずつ足しているから等差数列。
書き言葉・答案 Show that a, b, c form an arithmetic sequence if and only if 2b = a + c. a, b, c がこの順に等差数列をなすことと 2b = a + c が同値であることを示せ。
