2 つの円（または 2 つの曲線）の両方に接する直線。2 円が共通接線の同じ側にあれば共通外接線、反対側にあれば共通内接線という。
A line tangent to each of two circles (or curves). It is an external tangent if both circles lie on the same side of it and an internal tangent if they lie on opposite sides.
例文

言い間違えやすいところ
- 英語版 Wikipedia「Tangent lines to circles」は、共通外接線を external tangent line（節 Outer tangent）、共通内接線を internal tangent line（節 Inner tangent）と書く。日本語の「外接・内接」を circumscribed ／ inscribed と訳さない。
- 本数は 2 円の位置関係で決まる。離れていれば 4 本、外接なら 3 本、2 点で交われば 2 本、内接なら 1 本、一方が内部にあれば 0 本。
