定義
事象 A が起こったという条件のもとで、事象 B が起こる確率。P(A ∩ B) を P(A) で割って求める。
The probability that event B happens given that event A has happened, found by dividing P(A ∩ B) by P(A).
例文
話し言葉 We already know the card is a face card, so this is a conditional probability: the probability of a king given a face card. 引いたカードが絵札だとわかっているので、これは条件付き確率で、絵札であるときにキングである確率だ。
書き言葉・答案 A family has two children, and at least one is a girl. Find the conditional probability that both children are girls. ある家庭に子どもが 2 人いて、少なくとも 1 人は女の子である。2 人とも女の子である条件付き確率を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 学習指導要領解説（数学A）は P_A(B) と書くが、AP Statistics の CED（topic 2.6）と OpenStax Introductory Statistics は P(B | A) の形で書く。OpenStax Introductory Statistics（3.1）はこれを the probability of B given A の形で読み、CED は事象 A が起こったときに事象 B が起こる確率と説明する。条件の A が縦棒の右に来るので、文字の順が逆になる。
- P(B | A) と P(A | B) は一般に違う。入れ替えるにはベイズの定理を使う。
