「かつ」「または」「でない」「ならば」のように、命題どうしを結びつけたり否定したりして新しい命題を作る語や記号のこと。
A word or symbol, such as "and," "or," "not," or "if … then," that joins or modifies statements to build a new statement.
例文
話し言葉 The main connective in this statement is the "or," so that's the last column you fill in. この命題でいちばん外側の結合子は「または」だから、表のいちばん最後の列はそれになるよ。
書き言葉・答案 Identify the logical connective in the statement "x > 2 and x < 5," and write the statement in symbols. 命題「x > 2 かつ x < 5」に使われている論理結合子を答え、その命題を記号で表せ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 高等学校学習指導要領解説（数学I 集合と命題）は必要条件・十分条件・対偶や簡単な命題の証明を扱い、集合の記号として a ∈ A、A ∩ B、A ∪ B、A ⊂ B、Ā を挙げるが、「論理結合子」の名前は出てこない。真理値表と「p → q」の否定「p ∧ (¬q)」は、理数に関する学科の科目「理数数学I」の発展・拡充の内容に挙がる（数学I の節には無い）。
- 数学の or は両方が真の場合も真になる（CK-12 Geometry 2.9 は p ∨ q を、p と q の少なくとも一方が真のとき真とし、Levin は inclusive or と書く）。日本語版 Wikipedia「論理和」も、命題の少なくとも一つが真であれば真とする（非排他的な論理和）。
- 用例コーパスでは書き言葉（MIT の講義ノート）にわずかにあるだけで、話し言葉には出てこない。CK-12 Geometry（2.9 And and Or Statements・2.10 Negative Statements）は logical connective を 18 件、Levin（1.1 Mathematical Statements）は 19 件使う。
