三角形の 1 つの頂点と、その対辺の中点を結ぶ線分のこと。3 本の中線は 1 点（重心）で交わる。
In a triangle, the segment that connects a vertex with the midpoint of the side opposite that vertex. The three medians meet at one point, the centroid.
例文
話し言葉 Draw the median from A. It goes to the midpoint of BC, so BM equals MC. A から中線を引こう。BC の中点に向かうので BM = MC になる。
書き言葉・答案 In △ABC, AM is a median and G is the centroid. If AM = 12, find AG. △ABC において、AM は中線、G は重心である。AM = 12 のとき、AG を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 英語の median は統計の「中央値」（median）と同じ語。図形の話なら中線、データの話なら中央値と読み分ける。紛れそうなときは the median of a triangle と言う。
- 中線は頂点と対辺の中点を結ぶ線分。角の二等分線（angle bisector）、垂直二等分線（perpendicular bisector）、頂点から対辺への垂線（altitude）と取り違えない。
- IM Geometry（6.16・6.17）と CK-12 Geometry（4.23 Medians）は、the medians of a triangle が 1 点（重心）で交わる、の形で使う。
