どんな a についても a = a が成り立つという性質。図形では、どの線分や角も自分自身と合同であることを言う。
The property that every quantity is equal to itself: a = a. In geometry it says that any segment or angle is congruent to itself.
例文
話し言葉 These two triangles share side BD, so BD is congruent to BD by the reflexive property. この 2 つの三角形は辺 BD を共有しているので、反射律より BD ≅ BD。
書き言葉・答案 In the figure, △ABD and △CBD share side BD. Give the reason for the statement BD ≅ BD. 図で、△ABD と △CBD は辺 BD を共有している。BD = BD と言える理由を答えよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- センター試験の問題文（平成 27 年度 数学Ⅰ・数学Ａ）は「∠C は共通」のように書き、反射律という名前は使わない。CK-12 Geometry の 2 列証明は、理由の列に Reflexive Property of Congruence と書く（5.8 Parallelogram Classification ほか）。
