対応する角がそれぞれ等しく、対応する辺の比がすべて等しい 2 つの三角形。一方を拡大・縮小して移すともう一方に重なる。
Two triangles whose corresponding angles are equal and whose corresponding sides are proportional, so one is a scaled copy of the other.
例文
話し言葉 These two are similar triangles, so the corresponding sides are proportional: x over 4 equals 6 over 3. この 2 つは相似な三角形なので、対応する辺の比は等しい。x/4 = 6/3 だ。
書き言葉・答案 A 2 m pole casts a 3 m shadow while the tree's shadow is 15 m long. Use similar triangles to find the height of the tree. 2 m の棒の影が 3 m のとき、木の影は 15 m であった。相似な三角形を使って、木の高さを求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 相似の記号は、中学校学習指導要領解説（〔用語・記号〕）では ∽、IM Geometry・CK-12 Geometry では ∼（△ABC ∼ △DEF）。どちらも対応する頂点の順に書く。
- 「対応する辺の比が等しい」は corresponding sides are proportional と言う（比例する辺）。
