定義
原点を中心とする半径 1 の円。円周上の点の x 座標を cos θ、y 座標を sin θ として三角比・三角関数を定める。
The circle with center at the origin and radius 1. For the point on it at angle θ, the x-coordinate is cos θ and the y-coordinate is sin θ.
例文
話し言葉 On the unit circle, the x-coordinate is cosine and the y-coordinate is sine, so at 120° you get negative one half and root three over two. 単位円では x 座標が cos、y 座標が sin だから、120° なら −1/2 と √3/2 になる。
書き言葉・答案 Use the unit circle to find sin 135° and cos 135°. 単位円を用いて sin 135° と cos 135° の値を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 高等学校学習指導要領解説（数学I 図形と計量）は単位円を使わず、座標平面の第 1 象限で原点を端点とする長さ α の線分 OP と点 P の座標 (α cos θ, α sin θ) で三角比を鈍角まで拡張する。単位円を使うのは数学II の三角関数（共通テスト（令和 7 年度 数学II・B・C）は「単位円を用いて」と書く）。
- 解説（数学I）の長さ α の線分 OP による定め方でも、単位円（α = 1）なら座標がそのまま (cos θ, sin θ) になる。tan θ は y/x で、θ = 90° では定まらない。
