定義
一般角 θ に対して sin θ, cos θ, tan θ などを対応させる関数。単位円上の点の座標で定める。
A function such as sin θ, cos θ, or tan θ that assigns a value to an angle θ of any size; sin θ and cos θ are the y- and x-coordinates where the terminal side of θ crosses the unit circle.
例文
話し言葉 All the trig functions are periodic, so their graphs repeat. 三角関数はどれも周期関数なので、グラフが繰り返す。
書き言葉・答案 Find the maximum and minimum values of the trigonometric function y = sin²θ + 2 cos θ for 0 ≤ θ < 2π. 0 ≦ θ < 2π のとき、関数 y = sin²θ + 2 cos θ の最大値と最小値を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry は sin・cos・tan に加えて csc（cosecant）・sec（secant）・cot（cotangent）を定義して使う（節 The Other Trigonometric Functions）。高等学校学習指導要領の〔用語・記号〕は sin・cos・tan だけを挙げ、解説に sec・csc・cot は出てこない。
- OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry は三角関数のグラフを、章 Periodic Functions の節 Graphs of the Sine and Cosine Functions・Graphs of the Other Trigonometric Functions で扱う。
