変数を含み、変数の値によって真にも偽にもなる文や式。「x > 2」のように、成り立つかどうかが x しだいで決まるもの。
A statement or relation involving a variable whose truth depends on the value of the variable, such as x > 2.
例文
話し言葉 So the condition here is x > 2, and we want to know which x satisfy it. ここでの条件は x > 2 で、それを満たす x がどれかを知りたいわけだ。
書き言葉・答案 Let P be the set of real numbers x that satisfy the condition x² < 4. Write P as an interval. 条件 x² < 4 を満たす実数 x 全体の集合を P とする。P を区間で表せ。

言い間違えやすいところ
- センター試験（平成 30 年度 数学I・A）は「実数 x に関する次の条件 p, q, r, s を考える」、共通テスト（令和 3 年度 第1日程 数学I）は「条件 p, q を次のように定める」と、変数を含み真偽が変わる文を「条件」と呼ぶ。高等学校学習指導要領解説（数学I）の「条件」は「命題の条件や結論」（仮定）の意味。英語の condition はもっと広く、初期条件（initial condition。AP Calculus の CED（Unit 7）・OpenStax Calculus）なども言い、変数を含み真偽が変わる文の論理の用語は Levin の predicate（1.1.3 Quantifiers and Predicates）。
- 「条件 p を満たす」は satisfy the condition p。「〜のための条件」は the condition for …、「k に関する条件」は a condition on k と on で言える。
