定義
同じ円、または合同な円で、長さの等しい弧。等しい弧に対する中心角・円周角は、それぞれ等しい。
Arcs in the same circle, or in congruent circles, that have the same length. Central angles on congruent arcs are equal, and so are inscribed angles on them.
例文
話し言葉 In the same circle, both central angles are 70 degrees, so the arcs they cut off are congruent arcs. 同じ円で、どちらの中心角も 70° だから、それに対する弧は等しい弧だ。
書き言葉・答案 In circle O, arc AB and arc CD are congruent arcs, and ∠AOB = 48°. Find ∠COD. 円 O で、弧 AB = 弧 CD、∠AOB = 48° のとき、∠COD の大きさを求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- CK-12 Geometry 6.9 Arcs in Circles は合同の語を使って congruent arcs と呼び、弧どうしを ≅ で結ぶ（6.12 Chords and Central Angle Arcs も）。本プロジェクトの例文では、日本語は 弧 AB = 弧 CD、英語は arc AB ≅ arc CD と書く。
- 比べるのは同じ円か合同な円の弧。半径の違う円の弧は、長さが同じでも曲がり方が違うので congruent arcs ではない。
- 同じ円の中では、弧の長さが等しいことと、弧の度数（エントリ arc-measure）や中心角が等しいことは同じ。
- 中学校学習指導要領解説は「同じ弧に対する円周角」と書き、「等しい弧」という語は出てこない。CK-12 Geometry 6.9 は congruent arcs と呼ぶ。
