内積

高校の「内積」は英語の dot product（OpenStax は scalar product とも書く）。大学の線形代数では一般の内積を inner product と呼び、dot product はその特別な場合。用例コーパスの inner product は、話し言葉のほぼすべてが MIT 18.06。
式と読み方

定義
2 つのベクトル a, b について |a||b| cos θ で定める実数 a·b。成分では a₁b₁ + a₂b₂。
The number a·b = |a||b| cos θ for vectors a and b; in components, a₁b₁ + a₂b₂.
例文
話し言葉 If the dot product is zero, the vectors are perpendicular. 内積が 0 なら、2 つのベクトルは垂直。
書き言葉・答案 Find the dot product of a = (3, −2) and b = (4, 1), and the angle between them. a = (3, −2), b = (4, 1) の内積と、なす角を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- a·b は a dot b と読む。
- 線形代数では inner product（内積）とも言う（用例コーパスの話し言葉ではほとんどが MIT OCW）。OpenStax Calculus は scalar product とも書く（37 件）。
