IM Algebra 2(3.10 の用語集)と OpenStax Precalculus(3.1 Complex Numbers)は imaginary number を bi の形の数とし(英語版 Wikipedia「Imaginary number」も実数と i の積と定義する)、OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry(2.4)は bi を pure imaginary number と呼ぶ。 実数でない a + bi を、IM Algebra 2(3.17・3.19)は non-real、Nicholson は nonreal complex number と書く。
a + bi で b ≠ 0 のもの。
A complex number that is not real, a + bi with b ≠ 0 (the Japanese 虚数). IM Algebra 2 and OpenStax Precalculus use imaginary number only for numbers of the form bi, while OpenStax Intermediate Algebra uses it for every a + bi with b ≠ 0.
