x を a より小さい側から a に近づけたときの極限。
The limit of f(x) as x approaches a from values less than a.
例文
話し言葉 From the left, the graph is heading toward 1, so the limit from the left is 1. 左から近づくとグラフは 1 に向かうので、左側極限は 1。
書き言葉・答案 Find lim_{x→0⁻} 1/x. lim_{x→−0} 1/x を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 日本語版 Wikipedia「片側極限」は x → a⁻ などと並べて x → a − 0 の書き方を挙げる。OpenStax は x → a⁻ と書き、as x approaches a from the left と言う。
