if A intersect B is the empty set, then the probability of A or B is the probability of A plus the probability of B
A ∩ B = ∅ のとき A と B は互いに排反で、P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B)
Describes events that cannot happen at the same time, so A ∩ B = ∅; for such events, P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B).
Rolling a 2 and rolling a 5 on one die are mutually exclusive, so you can just add the probabilities.
Events A and B are mutually exclusive, with P(A) = 0.3 and P(B) = 0.45. Find P(A ∪ B). 事象 A, B は互いに排反で、P(A) = 0.3、P(B) = 0.45 である。P(A ∪ B) を求めよ。
- AP Statistics の CED(topic 2.5)は mutually exclusive, or disjoint と書き、OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry(13.5)も disjoint events を mutually exclusive と言い換える。集合の言葉の disjoint(共通部分が空)と同じ意味。
