親関数
おやかんすう 対応する語がないparent function

見出しの「親関数」は学習指導要領解説に無い、本プロジェクトの訳語。日本では「y = x² のグラフを平行移動したもの」と言い、もとになる関数に名前を付けない（エントリ transformations-of-functions）。
定義
平行移動・拡大・対称移動をする前の、いちばん基本の形の関数。y = x²、y = |x|、y = √x、y = x³、y = 1/x など。
The simplest function in a family of functions, before any shifts, stretches, or reflections, such as y = x², y = |x|, or y = √x.
例文
話し言葉 The parent function here is y equals x squared, and this graph is just that shifted up 3. ここでの親関数は y = x² で、このグラフはそれを上に 3 ずらしただけ。
書き言葉・答案 Identify the parent function of g(x) = |x − 2| + 5 and describe the transformations. g(x) = |x − 2| + 5 の親関数を答え、どのように移動・変形したかを述べよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- parent function は基本の形の 1 つの関数。そこから変換してできる関数の集まりは family of functions と言う。
- OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry は、基本の関数の一覧を toolkit functions とも呼ぶ。
- 合成関数の外側の関数（outer function、エントリ outer-function）とは別の語。
