定義
変数を近づけたとき、式の値が 1 つの有限の値に近づかない。
Said when an expression does not approach a single finite value as the variable approaches its target.
例文
話し言葉 The left and right limits are different, so the limit does not exist. 左側極限と右側極限が違うので、極限は存在しない。
書き言葉・答案 Since the one-sided limits differ, lim_{x→0} |x|/x does not exist (DNE). 片側極限が一致しないので、lim_{x→0} |x|/x は存在しない。
言い間違えやすいところ
- OpenStax Calculus は does not exist を DNE と略して書く（AP の CED は略さずに does not exist と書く）。
- 口頭では doesn't exist とも言う（用例コーパスの話し言葉にも the limit doesn't exist が出てくる）。
