定義
集合を円などの閉じた図形で表し、共通部分・和集合・補集合の関係を目で見えるようにした図。全体集合を長方形で囲み、その中に集合を円などでかく。
A diagram that shows sets as overlapping circles or other closed shapes, inside a rectangle that stands for the universal set, so that intersections, unions, and complements can be seen at a glance.
例文
話し言葉 Let's draw a Venn diagram: one circle for A, one for B, and the overlap is everything in both. ベン図をかこう。A の円と B の円をかいて、重なった部分が両方に入っているものだ。
書き言葉・答案 Draw a Venn diagram and shade the region that represents A ∩ B′. ベン図をかき、A ∩ B̄ を表す部分に斜線を引け。
言い間違えやすいところ
- Venn は人名なので大文字で書く（Venn diagram）。
- 補集合の記号は高等学校学習指導要領解説（数学I）では Ā、OpenStax Introductory Statistics では A′（エントリ complement）。「斜線を引く」は shade。
